5 minutes with Wendy ...
- Tell us a little about you
Have just hit 50 this year, but still in a little denial! (but no longer wearing shorts!) There are great things about being 50 – having years to reflect on how God has been faithful, providing, leading, sustaining, and shaping me. Loads of learning and experience, and feeling at home in my skin. Thankful for all God has taught me. I am grateful to call Coledale home with a beautiful beach down one end of the road and a rainforest in my back garden in a house that Shaun built before going off to bible college. I just love the ocean and the bush! Adjusting to having tweens, teens and wannabe adults in our house can be stressful at times but also joyful to see them becoming independent. I love reading, movies, cooking, and hosting people in my garden. I love my new chickens – my girls!
- What's your favourite bible passage & why?
This year it is 2 Corinthians 4-5. There is so much gold there about Gospelling – gospel methodology, motivation, message and messengers. I love that Paul is so real about this treasure in jars of clay. I love the eternal perspective he gives us in 4:16-18! Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
- How do you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus?
Keep working at making prayer and the bible central to my day, my week, and enjoying alone time with God. Realising it will always be a necessary battle against competing demands.
- What would you like the next generation of Christian women to know?
God is good! The Gospel is good news worth sharing! Lets keep our heads up and engage lovingly, intelligently, courageously as we ought – and not be discouraged. Jesus is King.
- What's one thing that you love about your church?
Their love for each other and willingness to be focussed on mission.
- What did you learn about God at a time in your life you found hard?
Still learning – God allows that which shapes us for our ultimate good and for his ultimate glory – and supplies what we need along the way. His grace is sufficient in my weakness.
- What are you passionate about?
I just love seeing God at work through the gospel and I love mentoring young women who are keen to serve Jesus.
- What do you enjoy doing when you rest?
Alone time with a good book in my sister’s holiday shack by the beach!
