5 minutes with Susanna

- Tell us a little about you

My name is Susanna - I’m a typographer, designer and sometimes photographer from Brisbane. I am married to a pretty incred guy, and I love doing life with Jesus - he makes all things a pleasure! (editors note: see some of Susanna's beautiful work on her site!)

- What's your favourite bible passage & why?

Ohhhh - I have so so many! I would have to say at the moment though it’s Ephesians 3 in The Passion Translation - I just love how it puts the magnificence of how much God loves and adores us.

"I pray he would pour out over you the unlimited riches of his glory and favour until supernatural strength floods your innermost being with his divine might and explosive power. Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you, and the resting place of his love will become the very source and root of your life, providing you with a secure foundation that grows and grows." Ephesians 3:16-17 TPT

- How do you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus?

Wow - this question could be an essay, but I’ll try and keep it short! Learning to fix my eyes on him has been a long journey. A few years ago I was struggling with some pretty bad anxiety, and in worship one day I had a very real, very powerful encounter with Jesus, where he stood in front of me and held out his hands. It felt as if he was actually standing there, although I knew it wasn’t - but I was seeing it in my spirit. He said to me, ‘keep your eyes on me..’ and I broke down in awe of how much more he is worthy of everything we have - including areas where we fall down (like comparison!!). He is my only measuring stick, everything goes through the lens of what he would think about something, and although sometimes I forget and begin to compare again, he reminds me that he is the only one worthy of our comparison; so we can become more like him!

- What would you like the next generation of Christian women to know?

Don’t let the world and it’s ups and downs and it’s trends define what you are really called to do - instead let Jesus define you!

- What's one thing that you love about serving His kingdom?

I love that no matter where I go, which church I’m in, who I’m friends with - there will ALWAYS be an opportunity to hear what he’s saying and act on it. Loving people, discipling others, serving the broken - these things are all such an honour and I hope my heart is always soft enough to hear and act on those things.

- What did you learn about God at a time in your life you found hard?

Phew - I feel like I’m always learning things! But the hardest time I can remember was the time that I wrote about in the question above. Learning to not compare myself (because it was causing almost panic attacks and severe anxiety!) but instead leaning into him and all he is!

- What are you passionate about?

I love people, I love seeing them grow, change, be challenged and really bloom into who they’re really meant to be. I love seeing young people take hold of the calling on their lives and act on what he’s saying to them. I love prayer and intercession - it is so so powerful when people pray, and I feel like the church sometimes forgets the importance of prayer! I love design, type, ink, art - anything creative and I’m there! I’m also pretty passionate about my husband, he’s pretty cool ;)

- What do you enjoy doing when you rest?

Rest is so important! I read books, my bible, drink tea, literally - do nothing sometimes. I’m an introvert at heart and being really busy really tires me out, so I make it priority at least once a week to have a day where I have no agenda but to rest. It’s so important to live life fully!
