5 minutes with Ruth ...
Tell us a little about you
I love great coffee! I have had the most interesting career – being a pastor, a journalist and social commentator, running a charity, starting a kindergarten, working in politics and now in business running a health and wellness centre. My husband is a film-maker and we love cheering each other on.
What's your favourite bible passage & why?
It’s a dead even tie between Proverbs 4:23 and Ephesians 2:10. Ephesians 2:10 speaks to me about a vision for identity and purpose, and Proverbs 4:23 helps remind me how to maintain healthy identity and purpose without getting side-lined by an unhealthy heart.
How do you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus?
I discover him more and more in his word and in worship. They help displace worry and anxiety and reveal the strength and beauty of Jesus.
What would you like the next generation of Christian women to know?
We are called to a great adventure! We have both the responsibility and opportunity to serve the world in which we live, and to do this in every sector.
What's one thing that you love about your local church?
It’s been the source of such life and encouragement, opportunity and friendship. It’s also been a brilliant way to learn how to walk out the joy and challenges of community.
What did you learn about God at a time in your life you found hard?
He’s good and I can trust Him, and I don’t have to understand.
What are you passionate about?
Creating a better tomorrow. Whether that’s addressing social injustice or poverty, I truly believe that we can make a difference in small ways and large.
What do you enjoy doing when you rest?
It’s been a really full season so I have very much valued the times I can spend with family and friends, carving out time for some self-care like a massage or time out to read great fiction, and I love getting out to connect with nature. I also just had a holiday and got my open water Scuba PADI certification- an amazing experience!
